Amber Heard unable to pay $10.4 million in damages to ex-husband Johnny Depp, says Lawyer

After the jurors of Virginia court ruled in favour of Johnny Depp's claim of defamation, Amber Heard's lawyer said that the actor can't afford to pay the $10.4 million in damages. In an interview with Today, lawyer Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, said the 'Aquaman' actor was 'demonised' by Depp's team.

Speaking about the 2020 case in the UK, the lawyer said Depp was found guilty of committing at least 12 acts of domestic violence, including sexual violence against Heard.

'So what did Depp's team learn from this? Demonise Amber, and suppress the evidence. We had an enormous amount of evidence that was suppressed in this case. In the UK case when it came in, Amber won, Mr Depp, lost,' she said.

She further stated that a number of things were allowed in the court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused.

Depp had filed a defamation case against Heard over her 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse.

The members of the jury announced that Depp successfully proved that Heard had defamed him, and awarded him with a total of $15 million in damages. Heard received $2 million in damages.

After the verdict, Depp quickly responded on his Instagram handle and said that the jury gave him his life back. Heard called the decision a 'disappointment' on her social media pages.
