Beyonce's name to be added to the French dictionary; will be listed as a proper noun

Beyoncé will now be an unforgettable chapter of French history as the pop icon has earned a coveted slot in the most recent edition of the French dictionary Petit Larousse Illustré. The 'Cowboy Carter' hitmaker is one of 40 celebrities who will be included in the dictionary. This achievement adds to the 42-year-old artist's already impressive resume.

Beyoncé is now a proper noun!

Beyonce's entry in the Larousse dictionary acknowledges her Louisiana Creole origin, with her name categorised as a proper noun under the description 'American vocalist of R&B and pop.'

Other notable names included in the 2024 entries include Cate Blanchett, LeBron James and Christopher Nolan, among others. The new entries “reflect concerns, developments or strong movements this year,” Carine Girac-Marinier, head of dictionaries and encyclopedias at Larousse, told French outlet Le Point.

What's Bey been up to?

2024 has been a remarkable year for Bey, who recently released her long-awaited, country-tinged album 'Cowboy Carter', which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album also debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums, Americana/Folk Albums, and Top Album Sales lists.

Next, she will be back on big screens with the release of her animated film, 'Mufasa: The Lion King'. She has lent her voice once again to the role of Nala in the film. Her daughter Blue Ivy has also joined the voice cast of The Lion King prequel. Ivy will voice Kiara, daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala.
