      ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Mark Margolis dies at 83

      Actor Mark Margolis, who played Hector Salamanca in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’, passed away at the age of 83. Morgan Margolis, his son, actor, and Knitting Factory Entertainment CEO, shared the news and mentioned that the veteran actor died on August 3 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City following a short illness.

      Mark Margolis was nominated for an Emmy for his performance in ‘Breaking Bad’ in 2012. He returned as Hector ‘Tío’ Salamanca for five seasons in the Bob Odenkirk-led prequel series ‘Better Call Saul.’

      Margolis moved to New York at a young age to pursue acting. He landed roles in productions such as ‘Infidel Caesar’ on Broadway and went on to appear in over 50 Off-Broadway plays, including ‘Uncle Sam’ and ‘The Golem.’

      Brian De Palma’s mob classic ‘Scarface’ was his breakout film in which he played the villain and bodyguard Alberto, aka The Shadow.

      Mark Margolis has over 70 film credits across five decades.

      Besides ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul,’ Margolis had recurring roles in television series including ‘The Equalizer,’ ‘Oz’ ‘Kings’ and ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’.

      In a statement, Margolis’ manager Robert Kolker said, ‘He was one of a kind. We won’t see his likes again. He was a treasured client and a lifelong friend. I was lucky to know him.’
