Cannes 2023: Harrison Ford receives honorary Palme D’Or; ‘Indiana Jones 5’ gets 5-minute standing ovation

The world premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was held at Cannes on Thursday evening. This film is the fifth and perhaps the final chapter of one of the most celebrated franchises in movie history. Ahead of the premiere, Ford received the honorary Palme D’Or for lifetime achievement. According to Deadline, a US-based media outlet, Ford was honoured with a career highlights reel and received a thunderous ovation from the crowd inside the Grand Theatre Lumiere.

‘I’m very moved by this. They say when you’re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes. A great part of my life, but not all of my life. My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful,’ he said.

Ford added, ‘I love you, too. But I’ve got a movie you ought to see. It’s right behind me. So let me get out of the way, and thank you again for this great honor.’

Post the screening, the movie received a muted standing ovation for 5 minutes.

‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, directed by James Mangold, also stars Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Olivier Richters, and Ethann Isidore in pivotal roles.

The previous four parts of the super-hit franchise ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’, ‘Temple of Doom’, ‘The Last Crusade’, and ‘Crystal Skull’ were directed by Steven Spielberg.
