Coolio started his career as a rapper in California in the late 80s. He gained global recognition in 1995 after the release of his soundtrack ‘Gangsta's Paradise’ from the film ‘Dangerous Minds’. 

Coolio, Grammy-winning rapper, dies at 59

US rapper Coolio, best known for his 1995 hit ‘Gangsta’s Paradise, died in Los Angeles at the age of 59. His longtime manager Jarel Posey confirmed the news to Variety, and said that Coolio died on Wednesday afternoon.

Posey told TMZ that Coolio was found unresponsive in the bathroom of a friend's house.

‘We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away this afternoon. He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly,’ Sheila Finegan, his manager at Trinity Artists International, said in a statement to Variety.

Coolio started his career as a rapper in California in the late 80s. He gained global recognition in 1995 after the release of his soundtrack ‘Gangsta's Paradise’ from the film ‘Dangerous Minds’. He was awarded best rap solo performance for the track at the 1996 Grammy Awards.

Coolio was an actor as well. He appeared in many films and TV shows throughout his career such as ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ (1996), ‘Batman & Robin’ (1997), ‘The Nanny’ (1998), ‘Tyrone’ (1999), ‘Midnight Mass’ (1999), ‘Charmed’ (2002), ‘Star-ving’ (2009), ‘Futurama’ (2001, 2010) and ‘Gravity Falls’ (2012).
