Did Queen Elizabeth II watch The Crown on a projector? Here's what lead actor said

Matt Smith, who portrayed the role of Prince Philip in the first two seasons of ‘The Crown’, is the latest celebrity to pay his respect to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8. The actor recently appeared on the TODAY show and revealed that Queen used to watch the popular Netflix series on a projector.

‘I heard The Queen watched it. Yeah, yeah, and she used to watch it on a projector on a Sunday night apparently and I know that [Prince] Philip definitely didn't,’ Matt said.

Philip was apparently not a fan of the show. Matt recalled how a good friend of his, who sat next to the late Duke of Edinburgh at dinner, asked if he had watched the Netflix series. To this, Prince Philip apparently replied: ‘Don't be ridiculous.’

Matt said, ‘A friend of mine sat next to him at a dinner once and I think Philip asked my friend if he made The Crown," Smith said. "Then the first course came out, and then the second course came out and then the third course came out and my friend couldn't resist by the end of the meal he was like, 'Philip I have to ask, have you watched The Crown?' and apparently he turned round to him and went, 'Don't be ridiculous.'

Smith, who will not be able to return to the UK for The Queen's funeral procession on September 19, said that he might watch it at a local pub with a group of friends.

‘I think it's a piece of history. I don't think we'll ever have a monarch that serves for 70 years again. She saw 13 prime ministers come and go, 14 presidents or something like that and I just want to be in London. I want to experience it, I want to share in the ceremony of it, really,’ he said.

Season 5 of ‘The Crown’ is expected to release in November this year.
