Just a week after the Oscar Awards caused uproar among many Indians, the Grammy awards are now in the line of fire.

The Grammy ceremony, which was held on April 3, did not mention legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar, and iconic musician Bappi Lahiri, in its 'In Memoriam' section.

Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6 this year, while Bappi Lahiri died a few days later on February 15. Lahiri had reportedly been a member of the Grammy jury around a decade ago.

During the Oscar award ceremony last week, Mangeshkar as well as stalwart actor Dilip Kumar had been left out of the 'In Memoriam' segment. Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7, 2021.

The omission led to an outpouring of anger and condemnation from Indians on social media. While some called the move shameful and condemnable, others accused the Grammys of betraying their own ideals of inclusivity.

The late musicians honoured by the Grammys this year included Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, singer Meat Loaf, and Indian-origin music executive Bhaskar Menon.
