Hollywood star Johnny Depp sharply criticised 'cancel culture', admitting he is a victim of it, talking about his battered reputation in Hollywood.

Depp was accepting the prestigious Donostia lifetime achievement award at San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain, when he hit out at the 'instant rush to judge' people. Depp went on to say, no one is safe from cancel culture, calling on people to 'stand up' for people facing 'injustice'.

"I can promise you that no one is safe, not one of you, not one of you, not anyone out that door. No one is safe as long as someone is willing to say one sentence. It takes one sentence and there's no more ground," said Depp.

Depp was making an apparent reference to his high-profile libel case with UK newspaper The Sun which branded him as a "wife-beater", a case he lost last year.

Depp said, "It doesn’t matter if a judgement, per se, has taken some artistic license. When there’s an injustice, whether it’s against you or someone you love, or someone you believe in – stand up, don’t sit down. Cause they need you."

The Hollywood star is also dealing with a $50 million defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard, which is scheduled to go to trial in the U.S. next year.

His reputation in Hollywood took a massive hit after the domestic violence lawsuit, which led to Warner Bros dropping Depp from its Fantastic Beasts franchise.
