Margot Robbie reveals Disney has dropped female-led Pirates film

Hollywood star Margot Robbie has revealed that Disney has shelved the female-led ‘Pirates of the Carribean.’ In June 2020, Margot had announced that she would be starring in the female-led film, with the script written by screenwriter Christina Hodson, who also wrote ‘Birds of Prey.’

In an interview with Rebecca Ford for her new Vanity Fair cover, she said, ‘We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool'. She further added that it didn't really see the light of day from there on. 'But I guess they don’t want to do it,' Margot said.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who has been the producer for all the Pirates movie starring Johnny Depp, had informed that there are two new films in development by Disney. He had said, ‘Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without.’

Margot will be next seen in Damien Chazelle's 'Babylon' which also stars Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Tobey Maguire, Jean Smart, Li Jun Li and Jovan Adepo. She also has Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' with Ryan Gosling in the pipeline. The movie is slated to release next year.
