MTV VMAs 2022: Johnny Depp's surprise appearance; Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, BLACKPINK win top honours

It was an exhilarating Sunday night for the music industry. The MTV Video Music Awards were held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on August 28 and the who’s who from the industry made an appearance at the event. Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow and LL Cool J were hosts for the evening.

Johnny Depp made a cameo dressed as the show’s mascot — the moon person. He appeared on the stage after Jack Harlow, Fergie and Lizzo’s performance. This marked Depp’s first TV appearance after his highly-publicised defamation trial with former wife Amber Heard. He appeared digitally, seemingly floating over the arena. During his appearance, Depp joked that he needed the work. In a later segment of the awards show, he even offered his professional services.

Taylor Swift won the top honour at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards for her hit song ‘All Too Well: The Short Film’ (10-minute version). She surprised fans by announcing her new album, which will release on October 21, during her acceptance speech.

Harlow and Lil Nas X were recognized for their chart-topping collaboration ‘Industry Baby.’
