The Academy has changed its rules which will come into effect at the next Oscars. While the eligibility criteria for films have been revised, campaign promotional regulations have also been updated.

      The most prestigious awards of the film industry, the Academy Awards will witness some key changes for the next year. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have introduced the updated rules and campaign protocols for the upcoming Oscar awards.

      The Academy changes rules

      The Academy has revised the eligibility criteria for films. According to the Hollywood Reporter, now the films must screen for at least one week in select metropolitan areas and must meet expanded theatrical standards in multiple US markets and international territories.

      The report also suggests that the best original score category will now have a shortlist of 20 titles instead of 15. Besides, upto three composers can now receive individual statuettes for their contributions to a score.
      In another interesting development, animated feature films submitted by the foreign countries can now be considered for the international feature category as well, provided they meet the eligibility requirements. The Academy has updated campaign promotional regulations that mention the new guidelines for promoting Oscars eligible motion pictures.

      The 97th Oscars Awards

      The next Oscars, that is the 97th edition of the awards are scheduled for March 2, 2025. The new rules will come into place then. The changes aim to adapt to the evolving landscape of the film industry.
