Robert Downey Jr. winning the first Oscar of his long and winding career at the 96th Academy Awards was nothing short of magical. The actor won the honour of Best Supporting Actor for his critically acclaimed performance in Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'. Following the career-defining moment, RDJ has now shared a selfie from the morning after and it's all things 'happy'.

Robert Downey Jr. celebrates his Oscar win

Robert Downey Jr. bagged his maiden Oscar for playing the role of Admiral Lewis Strauss in Cillian Murphy-headlined biographical drama that swept 7 awards at the event that recognises the highest acclaim in cinema. After the historic win, the veteran star has now shared a sweet selfie on his Instagram stories with the prestigious Golden statue. Breaking from his dressed-to-the-nines persona, the actor slipped into a cosy robe as he showed off his newly acquired award, celebrating it all with a 'happy' cuppa coffee. Accompanying the picture, Robert penned the caption, “Oh happy day.”

'I needed this job more than it needed me'

Robert Downey Jr. received the award from the previous year’s Best Supporting Actor winner, Ke Huy Quan. During his acceptance speech, he said, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the academy, in that order. I’d like to thank my veterinarian, I meant my wife, Susan Downey. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here. Thank you. Here’s my little secret. I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it, and Emma made sure that she surrounded me with one of the greatest casts and crews of all time, Emily, and Cillian, it was fantastic. And I stand here before you a better man because of it.”
