Ruggero Deodato, director of the 1980 horror film ‘Cannibal Holocaust’, died aged 83 on Thursday. He made films in a variety of genres but he remains best known for his gruesome horror film that got him arrested and was banned in more than 50 countries. According to Deadline, no detailed information about his death was given.

As per a Deadline report, ‘Cannibal Holocaust’ footage contained scenes of horrific torture along with other acts of extreme cruelty. Deodato was found guilty of animal abuse, but the murder charges were withdrawn after the courtroom appearance of the purportedly dead and ingested actors.
