Sinéad O'Connor dies: Kareena Kapoor, Bryan Adams and others remember late singer-songwriter

Renowned Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor died at 56. Her family shared the news in a statement on July 26.

‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,’ the statement read.
Now, tributes are pouring in for her on social media. Actor Kareena Kapoor shared a news article about O’Connor’s death on Instagram Stories and wrote, ‘Nothing compares to you…you Legend.’

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor took to Twitter and call Sinéad O’Connor one of the most powerful and moving singers of her generation.

He tweeted, ‘Tragic passing of one of the most talented pop singers #SineadOConnor .. a troubled life, she was unafraid to bring her pain to her songs. Making her one of the most powerful and moving singers of her generation.’

Musician Bryan Adams said he loved working with her- making photos, doing gigs in Ireland together, and chatting.

Sinéad O'Connor, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, had been public about her mental illness. She posted a Facebook video in 2017 from a New Jersey motel where she had been living, saying that she was staying alive for the sake of others and that if it were up to her, she’d be 'gone'

O’Connor's teenage son Shane died by suicide in 2022.

The singer's final tweet, sent July 17, read: 'For all mothers of Suicided children,' and linked to a Tibetan compassion mantra.

Sinéad O'Connor became a star with her 1987 debut album, ‘The Lion and the Cobra’. She became a sensation in 1990 with her cover of Prince's ballad ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.
