Taylor Swift's three concerts in Vienna, Italy were cancelled earlier this month after authorities got word of a looming threat. Thousands of fans were expected inside and outside the venue where the concerts were set to take place. The latest investigation into the matter has now revealed concerning details.

A Central Intelligence Agency official recently revealed that the terrorist plot at Swift’s Vienna concerts earlier this August was intended to kill “tens of thousands” of fans. “They were plotting to kill a huge number, tens of thousands of people at this concert, I am sure many Americans,” CIA Deputy Director David S. Cohen said at the annual Intelligence Summit just outside Washington, D.C., as reported by NewYork Times.

“The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do," he added.

The official also revealed that the main suspect in the planned attack, a 19-year-old Austrian Citizen, was in contact with two minors, including a person who was supposed to work at the venue. During their search at the main suspect's house, the investigators found chemical substances, manuals on how to prepare explosive devices, knives, and material promoting the Islamic State.

      Swift's message for fans

Taylor Swift recently broke her silence on the incident in a lengthy Instagram post. The pop star said, “Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows,” she wrote. “But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Taylor returned to the Eras Tour almost a week after the concerning turn of events and performed five shows to a packed stadium in Wembley. Her next stop is Miami, Florida.
