Tom Hanks: 'Forrest Gump' had a sequel planned

The cult classic 'Forrest Gump', starring Tom Hanks, was released in 1994 and was huge success at the box office. In a recent interview, the actor has revealed that a sequel of the film had been a huge possibility but only for a duration of 40 minutes.

During the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Tom said 'I will say that, with a long time in between, we did take a stab at talking about another Forrest Gump that lasted all of 40 minutes. And then we never...we said, 'Guys, come on.' A smart thing I did is I've never signed a contract that had a contractual obligation to a sequel. I've always said, 'Guys, if there's a reason to do it, let's do it. But you guys can't force me.' There is that natural inclination that is one of pure commerce that says, 'Hey, you just had a hit, so do it again and you'll have a hit.'

The film was based on the 1986 novel of the same name, and it also had a sequel which was published in 1995, named 'Gump and Co'. The film grossed $678 million worldwide at the box office and turned out to be a huge blockbuster.Tom Hanks won the Academy Award for Best Actor.'Forrest Gump' won 5 other Oscars, including Best Picture.

The film was recently remade in Hindi. Titled 'Laal Singh Chaddha', it starred Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
