'Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama' set to release in Indian theaters on January 24

The iconic 1993 Japanese-Indian animated film "Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama" is set to return to Indian theatres on January 24, marking a nostalgic revival for generations of fans.

The film, a timeless retelling of the epic, combines Japanese artistry with the soul of Indian heritage.

Initially scheduled for a re-release in October 2024 with updated dubs in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu alongside the original English version, the movie will now arrive earlier in a stunning 4K format, thanks to Geek Pictures India, AA Films, and Excel Entertainment.

Arjun Aggarwal, co-founder of Geek Pictures India, expressed the joy of bringing this beloved epic to new and old audiences. “This isn’t just a movie; it’s a celebration of our culture, a bridge between generations, and a testament to the global admiration of Indian heritage through Japanese anime,” said Aggarwal.

For many, the film is more than just a story; it’s a piece of their childhood. Aired on Indian television in the early 2000s, it left an indelible mark with Arun Govil’s voice as Ram, Namrata Sawhney as Sita, and the unforgettable Amrish Puri as Raavan. Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha lent gravitas as the narrator, while the direction by Yugo Sako, Ram Mohan, and Koichi Sasaki gave it an unparalleled visual appeal.

Screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad, celebrated for masterpieces like Baahubali and RRR, has creatively overseen the adaptation of this cherished tale for its new versions.

Though initially screened at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993, the film never saw a theatrical release in India. Its resurgence is bound to evoke a wave of nostalgia, rekindling memories for those who grew up watching it on television.

As "Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama" gears up for its theatrical debut, it promises to unite generations once again, offering a timeless story of devotion, duty, and valor to fans across the country.
