'RRR' is now the highest-grossing Indian film ever in Japan, beats Rajinikanth’s ‘Muthu’

As per a report by Tollywood.net, SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ has crossed JPY400 million (around ₹24 crores) to claim the top spot.

      SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’, which was released in Japan on October 21, has now become the highest-grossing Indian film in the country. Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer has overtaken Rajinikanth’s ‘Muthu’, which held the record for two decades.

      ‘RRR’ was released on 209 screens and 31 Imax screens across 44 cities and prefectures in Japan. As per a reported by Tollywood.net, the film has crossed JPY400 million (around ₹24 crores) to claim the top spot.

      Meanwhile, the film which is gearing up its campaign for the Golden Globes and Academy Awards has won another prestigious award. Composer MM Keeravani won Best Original Score at the Boston Society of Film Critics on Sunday night.

      Taking to Twitter, Boston Society of Film Critics Circle wrote, ‘WINNER, Best Original Score: RRR (by M. M. Keeravani), Runner Up: WOMEN TALKING (by Hildur Guðnadóttir)’

      This isn't the first win for the film in the US. ‘RRR’ won the Best International Film award at the Atlanta Film Critics Circle, and SS Rajamouli won the best director award at the New York Film Critics Circle.

      ‘RRR’, set in the 1920s pre-independent era, is based on the lives of two well-known revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The film earned over ₹1100 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. Recently, it was re-released across several cities in the US as part of the Beyond Fest.
