‘Liger’ distributors threaten to protest outside director Puri Jagannadh's home

‘Liger’, directed by Puri Jagannadh, failed to impress the audience and met a tragic fate at the box office. Now, the film’s distributors have allegedly threatened to protest against the director for not returning their money after the Vijay Deverakonda-Ananya Panday starrer’s debacle at the ticket booth.

An alleged screenshot of a WhatsApp message was shared by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma on his official Twitter page, which claimed that a group of distributors is planning to stage a dharna outside Puri Jagannadh’s house on October 27 at 9am. It also requested exhibitors to carry extra clothes with them as the protest could last for at least four days. Sharing the screengrab, RGV wrote, ‘Threatening Msg circulating in Distribution groups about LIGER.’

Ram Gopal Varma also shared Puri Jagannadh’s response to the message that is being widely shared online.

The director, in his statement, hit back at the distributors for allegedly blackmailing him. He said that he didn’t need to return money to anyone, but he was still doing it for those who suffered losses. Puri further said that he wouldn’t be returning money to those who plan to stage protests against him.

Earlier, Vijay Deverakonda addressed the failure of ‘Liger,’ which marked his Bollywood debut. At the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA), he seemingly got emotional during his speech and mentioned that he didn’t even wish to attend the ceremony. ‘We all have good days. We all have not-so-good days. We all have sh**ty days. But irrespective of how we feel, we get up… And today I actually maybe didn’t want to be here taking this award, but I came here and as I speak to you, I promise to you that I will get the job done for all of you and you will be entertained. And great cinema will be made,’ he said.
