‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, was released in Japan on October 21, and it is now the second highest-grossing Indian film in the country. SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus has overtaken the director’s own ‘Baahubali 2’. The film was released on 209 screens and 31 Imax screens across 44 cities and prefectures in Japan. This is the fastest Indian film to cross the JPY300 million club, reportedly earning over ₹17 crores in 34 days.

As per a poster shared by box office tracker T2BLive on Twitter, ‘RRR’ has registered over 2 lakh footfalls. Rajinikanth’s ‘Muthu’, which was released 24 years ago, remains the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in Japan with a box office collection of JPY400 million, approximately ₹23.5 crore.

Ahead of the film’s theatrical release in Japan, SS Rajamouli visited the country along with Ram Charan and Jr NTR to promote their film. ‘RRR’, set in the 1920s pre-independent era, is based on the lives of two well-known revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. While Ram Charan played Ram, Jr NTR was seen as Bheem

‘RRR’ has grossed over ₹1000 crore worldwide. It re-released across several cities in the US recently as part of the Beyond Fest.
