At least 2038 people were killed by landslides, floods and lightning in India this monsoon season.

2,038 killed due to floods, lightning and landslides in India since April

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs said 2038 people have died due to landslides, floods and lightning since April 1. More than 1500 were injured and 101 went missing.

Most deaths were reported out of Bihar, tallying at 518. Himachal Pradesh was second on the list with 330 casualties.

The new data said floods have killed 892 people since April 1. Landslides killed 186 while 506 were victims of lightning.

Besides Bihar and Himachal Pradesh, 165 people died due to rains, floods, landslides and lightning in Gujarat, 138 in Madhya Pradesh, 107 each in Karnataka and Maharashtra, 90 in Chhattisgarh and 75 in Uttarakhand.

A total of 160 teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in various states. Of them, 17 teams were deployed in Himachal Pradesh, 14 in Maharashtra, 12 each in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, 10 each in Assam and West Bengal and 9 in Uttarakhand, according to the data.
