AAP sweeps Delhi's civic body poll

The Aam Aadmi Party has swept the Delhi's municipal corporation elections, winning 134 wards out of 250.

The BJP came second after winning 104 wards while the Congress managed to win just 9 wards according to the Election Commission data.

AAP's victory ends BJP's 15-year reign of Delhi's civic body. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people for AAP's victory in the MCD polls and sought the cooperation of the BJP and the Congress as well as the "blessings" of the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve civic amenities in the national capital.

These were the first municipal polls in the national capital after three civic bodies - North Delhi, East Delhi and South Delhi - were re-unified into one in May this year.

The municipal corporation had been trifuracted in 2012.
