All eyes on forecast: IMD predicts early monsoons

Respite from the blistering heat this year may come early as the India Meteorological Department predicted that the southwest monsoon may hit the Kerala coast four days earlier than usual.

Monsoons usually hit the coast of Kerala each year on June 1.

IMD has predicted that monsoon, which is critical to agriculture and rural economy, is set to hit the coast ahead of schedule based on its current progress.

According to IMD, monsoon is already advancing towards South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast bay of Bengal and will reach these locations by the 15th of may.

Usually, the monsoon covers the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 22 with an error margin of 5 days.

Watch | No respite in sight: soaring temperatures, heatwave here to stay?

According to reports, a senior IMD scientist said Asani cyclone is the reason for the moisture being dragged towards Andamans ahead of schedule.
