BJP demands restoration of 'Sheesh Mahal' and swift action on violations from Delhi LG

Following the Delhi Assembly election victory, the BJP announced that its Chief Minister would not reside in the "Sheesh Mahal," referring to the controversial bungalow at 6, Flagstaff Road where Arvind Kejriwal lived during his tenure as Chief Minister from 2015 to October 2024. The property has drawn attention from Central agencies due to alleged "irregularities" in its renovation.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva revealed this decision shortly after filing a request with Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena for the demerger of four government properties. Sachdeva alleged that these properties were combined during the renovation of the bungalow, which consisted of eight Type-V flats and two government bungalows merging with the Flagstaff Road location in Civil Lines to create an extensive complex of over 50,000 square meters.

Sachdeva urged the L-G to intervene urgently to reinstate the properties to their original stature and reduce 6, Flagstaff Road back to its former area of less than 10,000 square meters.

The future of the bungalow will be finalized once the BJP takes charge, as reiterated by the Delhi BJP president. Throughout the election campaign, the BJP frequently criticized Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party chief, for constructing a lavish residence, labeled as a "₹45-crore Sheesh Mahal."
