The initiative garnered over 100 media mentions in local, national and international outlets, positioning Assam Police as a leader in innovative public safety campaigns," special DGP Harmeet Singh told PTI. &nbsp; &nbsp; This time, it resonated not just as a social media trend but as a potent tool for behaviour change with the campaign earning accolades nationwide, he added. &nbsp; &nbsp; "The success of #DJLockup isn't just measured in likes and shares. The campaign's tangible impact is evident in significant reduction of drunken driving cases in Guwahati. On December 31, the number of such cases dropped by a staggering 55 per cent compared to the previous year," Singh said. &nbsp; &nbsp; This campaign translated to fewer accidents, injuries and lives lost -- a testament to the power of creative awareness, he added. &nbsp; &nbsp; "Police departments from Punjab to Gujarat adapted the idea for their own campaigns with many retaining the core essence of #DJLockup while adding local flair. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday stressed on the importance of the diaspora as India strives to build a &ldquo;global workforce&rdquo;.
Addressing the Indian diaspora at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention here, Jaishankar said that in times of difficulty abroad, they can be confident that the Narendra Modi government &ldquo;has got your back&rdquo;.
&ldquo;We are proud of the achievements of our Indian diaspora,&rdquo; he said.
 &ldquo;In a globalised era, the diaspora has become more important with each passing year, whether it is technology, best practices or resources, be it tourism, trade or investment, the two-way flow is invaluable as we strive to build a global workforce,&rdquo; Jaishankar said.
The minister said the role of the diaspora is immense as they act as the bridge between India and the countries where they live.
He said the people-centric changes that the Modi government is promoting are also benefitting the diaspora.
&nbsp; &ldquo;This could enhance the ease of doing business, promote ease of living and facilitate connectivity and travel. The application of digital technologies to ensure diaspora welfare is also apparent,&rdquo; he said.

Rescue operations continued for a fourth day on Thursday as multiple state and central agencies worked to locate miners trapped in an illegal rat-hole coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The operation resumed early after a night-long dewatering effort, with a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) entering the flooded shaft. However, the ROV has not yet detected any trapped miners due to the heavily blackened water, which is complicating the search.
Four deep divers from the Navy also joined the search in the shaft, alongside teams from the Navy, Army, NDRF, SDRF, ONGC, Coal India, and local authorities. The miners were trapped inside the 3-Kilo Coal Quarry in Umrangso, located around 250 km from Guwahati, when a sudden gush of water flooded the shaft on Monday. There were around 15 workers inside the mine, and while some managed to escape, nine workers remain missing. One body was recovered on Wednesday.
To assist in the operation, Coal India deployed a heavy pressure pump from Maharashtra, which arrived at Silchar airport in Cachar district. A Mi-17 helicopter will transport the pump components to the site for assembly. Although several pumps are in operation, heavy siltation in the water is hindering their effectiveness. The rescue teams are now awaiting the arrival of more powerful submersible pumps.
The mine involved is a "complete rat-hole mine," which remains illegal despite a 2014 National Green Tribunal ban on the practice. The shaft is 310 feet deep, with multiple channels carved out using the dangerous rat-hole technique. Experts speculate that a wall breach in one of these channels may have led to the flooding, possibly due to a connection with an already flooded nearby mine or an underground reservoir.
On Wednesday, the body of one missing worker, Ganga Bahadur Srestho from Nepal's Udaypur district, was recovered 85 feet below the surface by Army divers.

Asserting that the world today listens to India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that due to the country's heritage, it is able to tell the international community that the future does not lie in war but in Buddha.
Addressing the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Bhubaneswar, Modi said India is not only the mother of democracy, but democracy is a part of people's lives here.
He said the world today listens to India, which not only presents its own views strongly but also those of the Global South.
"Due to the strength of its heritage, India is able to tell the world that the future does not lie in war, but in Buddha (peace)," he said.
Modi said he has always considered the diaspora as India's ambassador to the countries they live in.
"We consider it our responsibility to help our diaspora during crisis situations no matter where they are," he said.
The PM said the diaspora played a major role in Independence in 1947, and sought their help to make India a developed country by 2047.
He said India is not only a young country but also a country of skilled youths.
"The government is trying to ensure that whenever Indian youths go abroad, they go with skills," Modi said, noting the demand for skilled workers across the world.
He said G20 meetings were organised in various parts of the country to give the world a first-hand experience of India's diversity.
"We don't need to learn diversity because our lives run through diversity," he added.

The anti-graft agency claims to have verified the bribe demand during an investigation between December 3 and 9, 2024, confirming that Nikam colluded with the Kharats. Nikam&rsquo;s petition denies that he avoided hearing the bail application or promised favorable orders, pointing out that no bail orders were granted during the period in question.

Chairman Naidu mentioned that the Chief Minister conducted a teleconference, expressing dissatisfaction with the temple's administration and calling the incident regrettable. He suggested administrative lapses might have contributed and announced that the Chief Minister would visit Tirupati on Thursday to console the injured.
The Chief Minister has directed authorities to prevent such incidents in the future and will announce compensation for the victims' families on Thursday. TTD board member Bhanu Prakash called the stampede unfortunate and sought forgiveness from the devotees. He assured that stringent measures would be taken to prevent recurrence, although the lost lives could not be reclaimed.

The Central Board of Secondary Education announced the results of the Class 12 Board exams on May 12, 2023.
The results were published on CBSE's website cbseresults.nic.in.
The board chose not to publish the names of the toppers in Classes 10 and 12 to prevent "unhealthy competition".
The overall pass percentage stood at 87.33%. Trivandrum region topped with a 99.91 pass percentage.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Panchayat Secretary Prithvi Singh and Audit Inspector Davinder Bansal in Sangrur for accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 related to auditing village panchayat development works.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Panchayat Secretary, Prithvi Singh,posted at BDPO Office, block Moonak in Sangrur district red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20000.&nbsp;
In this case another co-accused Davinder Bansal, Audit Inspector, posted in the office of Regional Deputy Director, Local Fund Audit, Patiala has also been nominated.
An official spokesperson of state VB said the aforementioned accused has been arrested following a complaint lodged by Gurwinder Singh, a resident of village Maha Singh Wala in Moonak who is husband of former Sarpanch.
He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said Panchayat Secretary has demanded bribe of Rs 20000 for auditing of the development works carried out by the village panchayat of Maha Singh Wala during the previous tenure and told that the bribe money has to be shared with aforementioned Davinder Bansal, Audit Inspector.
The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Panchayat Secretary was arrested while he was accepting the bribe money from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.&nbsp;
In this regard a case has been registered against &nbsp;said Prithvi Singh, Panchyat Secretary and Davinder Bansal, Audit Inspector, at VB police station Patiala range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and future investigations into this case was under progress, he said.

Addressing the meeting Tarunpreet Singh Sond revealed that the information technology policy of the Punjab Government is ready and will positively get cabinet&rsquo;s approval before 31 March of this year. He informed the investors that this policy has been framed after thorough study and interactions with key stakeholders. He said this new policy will definitely bring positive changes on a large scale in the IT sector of Punjab.
He also informed the investors that skill development is also one of the most focussed area of the state government. Sond revealed that the Punjab investment portal has been declared as the best portal in India on which 55 thousand MSMEs has got registered in one year.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday released the diary and calendar of the Punjab Government for the year 2025.
A spokesman of the Chief Minister&rsquo;s Office said that the layout design of the calendar and diary had been conceptualized and prepared by the Information &amp; Public Relations Department and printed by the Controller Printing &amp; Stationery Punjab.

Preparations are in full swing to celebrate the first anniversary of the consecration of the Ram Lalla idol at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya this weekend.
Scheduled from January 11 to 13, the celebrations aim to include commoners, who were unable to attend the historic ceremony last year, alongside around 110 invited VIPs, according to the temple trust.
A German hangar tent has been installed at the Angad Teela site, capable of hosting up to 5,000 people. Common people will have the opportunity to witness the grand event, which include classical cultural performances, rituals, and daily Ram Katha discourses at the pavilion and Yagnashala.
"The trust has decided to invite common people who could not attend the initial consecration ceremony last year. They will be allowed to join all three days of events at Angad Teela," said Champat Rai, the General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The trust said that invitation letters have been distributed to guests, including the 110 VIPs, many of whom missed the original pran pratishtha ceremony on January 22, 2024. "Those unable to attend last year will be included in this anniversary celebration," Rai added.
The daily schedule features Ram Katha sessions starting at 2 pm, followed by discourses on the Ramcharitmanas (manas pravachan) and cultural performances. Prasad distribution is planned for each morning, ensuring that attendees enjoy a devotional and spiritual experience.
Decorations at the Yagna site and preparations for the festival are nearing completion, according to the temple trust's media office.
The pavilion and Yagnashala will serve as key venues for these festivities, providing a rare opportunity for the public to be part of the ongoing celebrations.
Earlier on January 5, a government press note stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will perform the Ram Lalla 'abhishek' at the temple here on January 11.
Champat Rai earlier said that January 11 marks the one year of the establishment of the newly-built temple at Ayodhya Dham.
The Trust has already extended invitations to saints and devotees from across the country, with Rai urging residents and pilgrims to participate in the celebrations, making at least a one-day visit during the three-day festival and experience the spiritual atmosphere of Ayodhya.
The Ram Lalla idol was consecrated at the Ayodhya temple on January 22, 2024, a landmark event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Lakhs of people watched the 'pran pratishtha' (consecration) ceremony on television at their homes and in neighbourhood temples, savouring the historic moment.
