Centre to give ₹38.06 crore compensation to farmers in violence-hit Manipur

The central government has accepted Manipur’s request to provide ₹38.06 crore in compensation to farmers affected by the ethnic clashes in the state.

According to officials, farmers have been unable to cultivate at least 5,127 hectares of the state’s 1.95 lakh hectares of agricultural land. Bishnupur has been among the worst-hit districts.

State’s agriculture commissioner RK Dinesh said their priority is to speed up the process of releasing the money to the farmers by November.

More than 170 people have died in the clashes and over 50,000 have been displaced. The state has witnessed prolonged curfews and internet shutdowns.
