Chandrayaan-3 sends back temperature profile of Moon's surface. Details inside

Four days after successfully landing near the south pole on the Moon, India's Chandrayaan-3 has shared the first ever temperature profile of the lunar surface.

Taking to X, ISRO released the graph showing variation on lunar surface with increase in depth measured by the payload onboard Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander module.

The graph shows temperature variation from -10 degrees to 60 degrees.

“Here are the first observations from the ChaSTE payload onboard Vikram Lander. ChaSTE measures the temperature profile of the lunar topsoil around the pole, to understand the thermal behaviour of the moon's surface,” ISRO said in an update on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.

The payload has a temperature probe equipped with a controlled penetration mechanism capable of reaching a depth of 10 cm beneath the surface.

In earlier updates, ISRO informed that both rover and lander are doing fine, adding that Ch-3 has so far achieved 2 objectives and the third is currently underway.
