In Bengal, violence erupted during a Ram Navami procession in Howrah and massive police force was deployed in the area after stone pelting clashes.

Communal clashes mar Ram Navami celebrations: 2 dead

Clashes between two groups were reported in many states on the occasion of Ram Navami, multiple reports said on Monday.

West Bengal

In Bengal, violence erupted during a Ram Navami procession in Howrah and massive police force was deployed in the area after stone pelting clashes. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari claimed on twitter that, devotees took out a procession but police thrashed them with sticks.

In Bankura, devotees clashed with police after the marchers tried to deviate from the route fixed by the cops. Police said that stone were pelted at them in which two cops were injured. Police said they have arrested 17 accused.

Madhya Pradesh

Curfew was imposed in Khargone city after violence erupted in the region on the occasion of Ram Navami. Reports said a DJ playing during the procession became the bone of contention between two communities after requests were made to turn of the music. Police fired tear gas shells to control the situation. Some police personnel and people were injured as per reports.

Gujarat

Clashes broke in Himmatnagar and Khambhat cities, prompting the police to fire tear gas shells to control mobs who pelted stones at each other and damaged shops and vehicles.

Police said members of two communities hurled stones at each other when a Ram Navami procession reached Chhapariya locality in Himmatnagar city in the Sabarkantha district. One person was killed and another one injured.

In Khambhat town in the Anand district, a clash broke out wherein stones were pelted and shops and vehicles were damaged by two groups.

Jharkhand

Violence broke out in Lohardaga after two groups indulged in stone pelting during a Ram Navami procession. Reportedly dozens of vehicles were torched by miscreants. Police held a flag march in the city. More than six people have been injured in the clashes and one died.
