'Deeply apologise to cadre': Ahmed Patel's daughter after AAP gets Bharuch in Lok Sabha seat deal

Mumtaz Patel, the daughter of late Congress leader Ahmad Patel expressed disappointment over the seat-sharing deal finalised between Congress and AAP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat. As per the current arrangement, AAP has been handed the Bharuch seat, which has been a traditional stronghold for Congress' Ahmad Patel.

Children of the veteran Congress leader were unhappy as they were hoping that the Bharuch constituency would remain with the Congress.

"Deeply apologize to our district cadre for not being able to secure the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in alliance. I share your disappointment," Mumtaz said on X.

"Together, we will regroup to make Congress stronger. We won't let Ahmed Patel's 45 years of legacy go in vain. #bharuchkibeti (sic)" she added.

Earlier, her brother Faisal Patel told ANI, "My party workers and I are not happy and we wanted this decision to not be taken but if the high command wants, we will follow it - both party workers and I."

In Gujarat, the AAP will be contesting from Bharuch and Bhavnagar, while the Congress will field its candidates from the remaining 24 seats in the state.

In Haryana, the AAP will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Kurukshetra. The Congress will contest both the Lok Sabha seats in Goa," he said. The Congress will also contest the lone seat in Chandigarh, Wasnik said.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sandeep Pathak said the AAP and the Congress have decided to contest Lok Sabha polls separately in Punjab. Wasnik said that even though the two parties will fight on different election symbols, they will work to ensure success on all seven seats in Delhi.
