'Deeply concerned': US on Trudeau's allegations against India in Nijjar killing

The United States has expressed concern over the allegations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau against India in Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar's murder.

"We are deeply concerned about the allegations referenced by Prime Minister Trudeau earlier today," White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

“We remain in regular contact with our Canadian partners. It is critical that Canada’s investigation proceed and the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Trudeau has said that there are “credible allegations of a potential link” between Indian government agents and the killing of Nijjar in June.

India has rejected the allegations. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said the allegations of India's involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated.

Also watch: Who was Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Khalistani whose murder strained India-Canada relations?

It added that such allegations shift the focus away from Khalistani extremists who have been provided shelter in Canada.

The MEA urged the Canadian government to take prompt action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil.
