Delhi Assembly Election Results: Who are the giant winners and biggest losers?

The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections mark a historic shift as BJP secures 48 seats, ending AAP’s dominance. Arvind Kejriwal and top AAP leaders suffer defeats, while Congress fails to win a single seat again.

Delhi Assembly Election Results: Who are the giant winners and biggest losers?

The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections have delivered a historic verdict, bringing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) back to power in the national capital after 27 years.

With the final vote count completed, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed only 22—marking a significant decline from its 2020 tally of 62.

The Congress, continuing its downward spiral, failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive election.

A Resounding Victory for BJP

The BJP’s triumph marks a major political shift in Delhi, where AAP had dominated for over a decade. The party’s return to power is being seen as an endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and a rejection of AAP’s governance.

The results indicate a strong voter preference for the BJP’s promise of stability and its ‘double-engine government’ strategy, aligning the state and central leadership for better governance.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva celebrated the win, stating, “This victory is a testament to the people’s faith in PM Modi’s vision for Delhi. The result paves the way for the capital’s transformation under a strong, development-focused government.”

The Chief Ministerial candidate from BJP is yet to be announced, with the final decision resting with the party’s central leadership.

BJP's Parvesh Verma while thanking the voters of New Delhi, party workers and PM Modi, said that the party's priority would be to give Rs 2500 to women, create SIT to investigate corruption, Yamuna riverfront, reduce pollution, reduce traffic congestion.

On who'll be the next Chief Minister, he said, "In our party, the legislative party decides (CM's face) and then the party leadership approves it."

Biggest Losers: AAP’s Top Brass Faces Defeat

Arvind Kejriwal (New Delhi)

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal suffered a shocking defeat in the New Delhi constituency.

BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma won by a margin of 4,089 votes, securing 30,088 votes against Kejriwal’s 25,999. Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit finished a distant third with 4,568 votes.

This loss is a significant personal setback for Kejriwal, who had held this seat since 2013.

Manish Sisodia (Jangpura)

Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia lost to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by 675 votes in Jangpura. Sisodia’s defeat underscores the collapse of AAP’s stronghold in Delhi, where he had previously been a key figure in the party’s governance.

Speaking to reporters, Sisodia conceded the defeat, saying, “We put up a strong fight in the elections and I sincerely appreciate the support we received. However, we lost by around 600 votes.”

Saurabh Bharadwaj (Greater Kailash)

BJP’s Shikha Roy emerged victorious in Greater Kailash, defeating AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj by 3,188 votes. This outcome highlights BJP’s inroads into constituencies that were once considered AAP bastions.

Satyendar Jain (Shakur Basti)

BJP’s Karnail Singh won the Shakur Basti constituency by a massive 21,000-vote margin, defeating former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain. This marks a dramatic fall from Jain’s previous victories in 2015 and 2020, where he had won comfortably.

Giant Winners: BJP’s Game-Changers

Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma (New Delhi)

The biggest highlight of BJP’s victory was Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma’s win against Kejriwal in New Delhi. His triumph is being hailed as a turning point in Delhi’s political landscape.

"Delhi's people have given a huge mandate to the BJP. We will respect it and I congratulate the people of Delhi from the bottom of my heart..." he said.

Atishi (Kalkaji)

One of the few bright spots for AAP, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi retained the Kalkaji seat, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes. However, her reduced margin compared to 2020 reflects AAP’s overall decline in popularity.

"I congratulate the people of Kalkaji assembly who voted against 'baahubal', hooliganism and voted for truth and honesty", she said.

Kailash Gahlot (Bijwasan)

Former AAP minister Kailash Gahlot, who defected to BJP in 2024, secured a strong victory in Bijwasan, defeating AAP’s Surender Bhardwaj by 9,833 votes.

Tarvinder Singh Marwah (Jangpura)

BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah defeated AAP’s Manish Sisodia in Jangpura, marking one of the biggest upsets of the election. His victory reflects the voter shift away from AAP’s leadership.

Congress’ Irrelevance Continues

Once a dominant force in Delhi politics, the Congress party suffered its third consecutive zero-seat result. Its failure to win a single seat since 2015 highlights its diminishing role in the capital’s political landscape.

Prominent Congress leaders, including Alka Lamba, performed poorly, securing less than 5,000 votes in key constituencies.

What This Means for Delhi?

With the BJP set to form the next government, Delhi is poised for a new era of governance after over two decades of non-BJP rule. The party has pledged to bring infrastructural development, better civic amenities, and improved law and order under its administration.

This victory also signals the electorate’s rejection of AAP’s policies, corruption allegations, and governance model.

As BJP leaders celebrate their landmark win, all eyes are now on the party’s Chief Ministerial choice and its governance roadmap for Delhi’s future.

With this result, Delhi has decisively turned the page, ushering in a new political chapter under BJP’s leadership.
