Modi govt to observe 1975 Emergency as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' on June 25 every year

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the 12th of July announced that the Narendra Modi-led government would every year observe June 25, the day the Emergency was declared in 1975, as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas'.

Taking to social media X, Shah said that the government would commemorate the massive contributions of all those who endured the inhuman pains of the 1975 Emergency.

"On June 25, 1975, the then PM Indira Gandhi, in a brazen display of a dictatorial mindset, strangled the soul of our democracy by imposing the Emergency on the nation. Lakhs of people were thrown behind bars for no fault of their own, and the voice of the media was silenced."

"The Government of India has decided to observe the 25th of June every year as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas.' This day will commemorate the massive contributions of all those who endured the inhuman pains of the 1975 Emergency."

The government has been stepping up its attack against the Congress by repeatedly raking up the Emergency imposed by former prime minister Indira Gandhi, in response to the Opposition using the Constitution to target the Modi-led government.
