A 5-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri was buried alive allegedly after the wall of a toilet collapsed on him. The March 11 incident took place when the boy was playing outside the government-built washroom in Chapartala village of Magalganj, India Today reported.

Pankaj's family alleged that the toilet was constructed using substandard material in 2016, and when their son was playing outside on Saturday noon, the wall collapsed on him and he died on the spot.

The family further blamed the village head and village secretary for using poor-quality materials in construction. Meanwhile, the deceased's body was sent for an autopsy. A police case was yet to be registered, India Today reported.

According to a Times of India report, the government-built toilet was constructed under Swachh Bharat scheme.
