Haryana issues guidelines to safeguard public and livestock during heatwave

Amid the looming threat of a heatwave, the Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Department has taken proactive measures to safeguard both citizens and livestock.

In a statement, the department spokesperson has urged people to avoid venturing out for outdoor activities, along with their animals especially during the scorching afternoon hours.

The department has issued comprehensive guidelines, directing the Animal Husbandry Department to prioritize the well-being of animals. Special arrangements for drinking water, including tube wells, have been mandated, alongside the formulation of a Heatwave Action Plan to ensure the safety of cattle.

Farmers and livestock keepers have been advised to provide shelter and shade for their animals, allowing them to rest under trees and installing wet curtains to cool animal housing during extreme temperatures. Nutritious diets, including jaggery and salt water solutions, mineral mixtures, and multivitamins, are recommended to maintain animal health.

Furthermore, prompt veterinary assistance is advised in case of illness. Through these concerted efforts, Haryana aims to mitigate the adverse effects of the impending heatwave on both its human and animal populations.
