Haryana: Teams constituted to curb crop residue burning

The Agriculture Department in Haryana has taken proactive measures by establishing teams at various administrative levels. Additionally, satellite monitoring through the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC) has been deployed to track and deter such incidents.

Under the new initiative, teams have been set up at village, block, and district levels to prevent crop residue burning across Haryana. These teams will work in conjunction with HARSAC's satellite monitoring system to swiftly identify perpetrators and relay GPS locations to farmers. Strict penalties will be imposed on those found violating regulations.

In compliance with directives from the National Green Tribunal, authorities have invoked Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, enforcing a complete ban on residue burning until June 25, 2024. This legal action aims to curb the harmful environmental effects of such practices.

Efforts are underway to raise awareness among farmers about the hazards of crop residue burning. The Agriculture, Revenue, and Panchayat Departments have been tasked with educating farmers on alternative residue management techniques to safeguard soil fertility and environmental health.
