'He entertained us': PM Modi's dig at Mallikarjun Kharge in Rajya Sabha

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge was in PM Narendra Modi’s crosshairs as the latter addressed the Rajya Sabha on February 7. The PM credited
Kharge with providing “entertainment” in Rajya Sabha that had been missing from the Lok Sabha during the Budget session.

Referring to Kharge’s Rajya Sabha speech last week, Modi said he was pleased to see the Congress leader speaking at length. “I realized two special commanders were not there. Kharge made use of this opportunity. So he was having fun hitting fours and sixes,” the PM said while taking another dig.

The “two commanders” swipe was reportedly aimed at Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal, who were absent from the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

PM Modi also pointed out Kharge’s remark in Rajya Sabha last week that confused with an endorsement of BJP’s 400-seat target in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “You have a majority of 330, 334 seats and the 400-mark will be crossed this time,” the Congress leader had said.
His statement was confused with an endorsement of BJP’s 400-seat target in the upcoming elections.

Modi’s speech on Wednesday was most likely his last one in Parliament before the 2024 general elections. He was replying to the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu's address to Parliament.
