How will 'freezing' of accounts impact Congress? Here's what Ajay Maken said

Congress leader Ajay Maken said that all financial activities of the party have been impacted as he claimed that the Income Tax department has frozen all of the Congress party accounts.

In a press conference that took place on Friday, Ajay Maken said, "we got information day before yesterday that banks are not honouring the cheques we are issuing. On further investigation, we got to know that the Youth Congress bank accounts have also been frozen."

Ajay Maken also said that their accounts had been frozen just weeks before the elections. He further said that this is not just about Congress party accounts being frozen as it is 'equivalent to democracy being frozen'.

Maken added that the Income Tax department has asked for Rs 210 crore as recovery from Youth Congress and Congress party." Moreover, the

Congress party had recently started a crowdfunding campaign with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in mind. The money from that has been frozen as well, said Maken, who recently filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections.

He also talked about the impact of accounts being frozen and said, "Right now we don't have any money to spend, to pay electricity bills, to pay salaries to our employees. Everything will be impacted, not only Nyay Yatra but all political activities will be impacted."
