India-China military talks days after Chinese troops heckled Indian cattle-herders in Ladakh

Days after it emerged that Chinese troops had harassed Indian cattle-herders in Ladakh, senior Indian and Chinese military officials held talks. The discussions took place on 31 August 2022 in eastern Ladakh. It was a dialogue at the Major General-level, and it is a routine, monthly affair, as per sources quoted by news agency PTI.

On 21 August, Chinese troops had reportedly stopped Indian cattle-herders from grazing their cattle in Demchok area of Ladakh. The herders were on the Indian side of the disputed border called the Line of Actual Control (LAC). However, Chinese soldiers accused the graziers of being on the Chinese side, and stopped them from moving ahead.

The incident was subsequently discussed by area commanders of the Indian and Chinese armies.

India and China are currently engaged in a stand-off in the region, which began with China's aggression in Ladakh in 2020.
