JNU: Left, ABVP student groups hold protest a day after scuffle on campus

JNU campus remained tense on February 10 as student members of the Left front SFI and RSS-affiliated ABVP held separate protests over a scuffle that broke out between the two on February 9.

The said clash took place on the campus while they were electing members of the election panel for the 2024 Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union polls.

Both sides have blamed each other for the scuffle, and claimed that some of their members have been injured.

According to India Today, both student wings have lodged complaints with Delhi Police and the university administration.

AISA in a statement hit out at ABVP for its “consistent opposition to democratic processes” within campus.

“This incident calls for united opposition against ABVP’s disruptive agenda. Let us stand together to protect the democratic ethos of our campus and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.”

The ABVP statement also said that the JNUSU “passed casteist slurs” against the mike and sound workers “as they did not want the ABVP to participate in the UGBM”.

The JNU student elections have not been held for the last four years. It is scheduled to take place in March.
