Jyoti Nainwal, wife of a soldier who died fighting terrorists, becomes Indian Army officer

Jyoti Nainwal, wife of soldier Deepak Nainwal who died fighting terrorists in Kulgam in 2018, became a Lieutenant of the Indian Army after she passed out of the Officers' Training Academy in Chennai on Saturday.

Lieutenant Jyoti Nainwal was cheered on by her two children, who also wore army uniforms during the passing out parade.

Lieutenant Jyoti Nainwal was overwhelmed & thanked the Mahar Regiment and her family for their support. "I never thought I'll go for a job as I was a homemaker. Only when my husband was in the hospital, I saw how the Army takes care of their soldiers. So I decided to join the Army and my husband's Mahar Regiment helped. I want to tell the wives of other martyrs that we should live in a way that our children don't need to take anyone else as their inspiration," she said.

Soon after losing her husband in the battle, Jyoti Nainwal prepared for the Service Selection Board exam for entry to the armed forces & cleared the test, & underwent eleven months of training at the academy in Chennai.

More than 150 cadets were commissioned on Saturday. Vice-Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen CP Mohanty was present for the passing out parade.
