Karnataka hijab row: Invigilator removed from duty, students denied entry into exam halls

Several instances of girls not being allowed to appear for the Class 10 board exams in Karnataka because they were wearing hijabs were reported on Monday.

In Bengaluru, an invigilator was removed from duty for wearing a hijab and also for speaking in support of students who wanted to wear the headscarf while taking the exam.

On Sunday, Karnataka's Education Minister BC Nagesh had announced that students will not be allowed to wear the hijab inside exam halls.

After the recent controversy in the state over a headscarf, the full bench of Karnataka High Court had ruled that hijab is not an essential religious practice and everyone should abide by the uniform dress rule.
