Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to the people to go to safer places in view of the high alert issued for 11 dams.

Kerala rains: red alert for dams as danger levels breached, toll mounts to 27

As heavy rains lashed Kerala, death toll in related incidents, including landslides and flash floods rose to 27 on Monday.

Due to incessant rains a red alert has also been issued for 11 dams as water levels have breached the danger mark in several areas.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to the people to go to safer places in view of the high alert issued for 11 dams.

Chalakkudy river water levels will be hit after the Idduki dam gates are opened on Tuesday. The opening of the dam could affect Ernakulam district as well. A high alert has also been issued in Ernakulam and Idukki districts as well.

People living in low-lying areas are being evacuated. The state government has opened 247 camps for affected people across the state.

The pilgrimage to the Sabarimala temple has been put on hold after two shutters of Kakki dam were opened, causing water levels in Pampa River to rise.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Public Service Commission has postponed exams scheduled to be held on October 21 and 23.
