The Delhi High Court recently dismissed a bail plea by a man accused of raping his fiance on multiple occassions, saying that merely because the parties were engaged did not mean that the accused could have sexually assaulted, beaten or threatened the victim.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma also pointed out that it was 'not a fit case for grant of bail as there were serious allegations of forcible abortion and sexual assault on several occasions by the petitioner accused on the pretext of their scheduled marriage.

An FIR was filed in July this year, after the accused petitioner and his family members refused to solemnize their marraige.

As per the FIR, the woman who had known the accused for a year got engaged with their families consent, and her ordeal began 4 days after the ceremony.

The woman has also alleged that the accused forcibly gave her pills to abort her consequent pregnancy.
