Bengaluru rains: woman electrocuted after vehicle slipped on a waterlogged road

Amid heavy rains that have prompted waterlogging across Bengaluru, a 23-year-old woman died due to electrocution while returning from work on Monday night. The deceased, identified as Akhila, was riding back home on a two-wheeler when she accidentally came in contact with a live electric pole in Siddapura area, police said on Tuesday.

Witnesses revealed that on reaching the stretch of a road that was waterlogged, the lady's scooter broke down and she lost balance. As she was trying to regain balance to move ahead, she is said to have touched an electric pole nearby for support and got electrocuted, they added

The woman was rushed to a hospital, where she reportedly succumbed.

New agency ANI reported that her family has blamed civic bodies BBMP and BESCOM for improper handling of the electrcity and other systems. Meanwhile, the police is investigating the matter.

In the wake of flooding in Bengaluru, several private schools have declared holidays while others have switched to online classes until the situation gets better. Companies too have suggested employees work from home.

According to reports, the centre of India’s IT industry has received the highest rainfall in the last 42 years.

Adding to the woes, an alert for heavy rains in the north and south interior Karnataka over the next four days has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department.
