A government school teacher in Tamil Nadu has landed in trouble after allegedly forcing students to practice certain religious customs.

The teacher was accused of propagating Christianity, and denigrating Hinduism to influence students, according to news reports. The teacher allegedly made students read the Bible, and conducted prayer sessions by making students kneel and hold hands.

In unverified videos on social media, a student of the school is reportedly heard saying, "She asked us to read the Bible. We said we are Hindus, we read Bhagavad Gita not Bible. But she said the Gita is bad and that the Bible is the truth."

The incident from Kanyakumari came to light after some students told their parents about the teacher's instructions, which led to complaints being filed with the school authorities and the police.

The teacher was subsequently suspended. News reports suggested that an inquiry commission has been set-up for a detailed probe.
