The BJP on Tuesday accused Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal of using children for political gains, charging him with practising "petty, cheap and dirty" politics.
Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said Delhi's ruling party has not taken down a post, which shows some children raising pro-Kejriwal slogans, despite the National Human Rights Commission raising serious concerns on the matter.
Such a depiction of children is a violation of the Juvenile Act and the Election Commission guidelines, he said.
"Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi are not sparing even children. They are violating the dignity of children. Is it because Kejriwal knows that he is losing the elections in Delhi," Bhatia asked.
He asked why Kejriwal was "playing with young and impressionable minds for his petty, cheap and dirty politics".
The BJP, he claimed, will ensure that the "destroyer of children and a hater of children" is thrown out of power. He accused the AAP government of converting school toilets into classrooms for children and deliberately failing students in Class 9 and Class 11 to ensure higher pass percentages in Class 10 and Class 12.
He added that people will celebrate "Happiness Utsav" -- a Delhi government initiative to commemorate the 'Happiness Curriculum' in its schools -- by teaching the AAP a lesson in the upcoming polls.
The AAP government opened no new school despite promising over 500 of them, and is behind the vacancy of almost 80 per cent post of teachers, he alleged.
Bhatia dubbed Kejriwal's announcement of Rs 18,000 monthly honorarium to temple and gurudwara priests as yet another "false promise" by the AAP, claiming the former chief minister knows that his "political life" is coming to an end.
Until recently his government was opening liquor shops outside religious places, he said.
The BJP spokesperson noted that the AAP government has also promised a similar amount to imams but has not paid them for 17 months. "There has been no bigger fraud and deceitful politician in India than him," he alleged.
Asked about the Congress' charge that the BJP government at the Centre has disrespected former prime minister Manmohan Singh, the BJP leader hit back at the opposition party's "insult" of former PM P V Narasimha Rao, saying it did not even allow his cremation in the national capital.
There has been a bitter war of words between the Congress and the ruling BJP over arrangements at Singh's funeral and over the setting up of a memorial to the ex-PM.

"We are aware of the sentencing of Ms. Nimisha Priya in Yemen. We understand that the family of Priya is exploring relevant options," said Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
"The government is extending all possible help in the matter," he added.

Background of the Case
Nimisha Priya, a trained nurse from Palakkad, was found guilty of killing Talal Abdo Mahdi, a Yemeni national, in 2017. A Yemeni court sentenced her to death a year later, and her family has been tirelessly working to have the verdict overturned. Priya&rsquo;s family challenged the trial court&rsquo;s decision in the Yemeni Supreme Court, but their appeal was rejected in 2023. Following this, the Yemeni President also dismissed her appeal. Priya&rsquo;s only hope for release lies in obtaining forgiveness from the victim&rsquo;s family and tribal leaders.
Her mother, Prema Kumari, has been negotiating with the victim&rsquo;s family for forgiveness through the payment of "blood money." However, talks hit an impasse in September after the lawyer appointed by the Indian Embassy, Abdullah Ameer, demanded a pre-negotiation fee of $20,000 (approximately Rs 16.6 lakh). Although the MEA had already provided $19,871 to Ameer in July, he insisted on a total fee of $40,000. Despite the crowdfunding efforts by the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council to raise the first installment of this amount, there were transparency concerns over how the funds were being used.
 The Circumstances Leading to the Death Sentence
Nimisha Priya moved to Yemen in 2010 and worked as a nurse in private hospitals. In 2014, due to financial constraints, her husband and daughter returned to India. That same year, Yemen plunged into a civil war, preventing their return. In 2015, Priya sought the help of Talal Mahdi to set up a clinic in Sana'a, Yemen, as the country's laws allowed only Yemeni nationals to own clinics. During this time, Mahdi accompanied Priya to Kerala, where he allegedly stole her wedding photograph and later manipulated it to falsely claim he was married to her.
Upon their return to Yemen, Priya opened her clinic, but Mahdi took control of its revenue and manipulated ownership documents. When Priya confronted him about his embezzlement, Mahdi became hostile. He also falsely claimed Priya as his wife, even altering photographs to support this claim. Over time, Mahdi began to demand money from Priya's earnings and seized her passport, subjecting her to physical and emotional abuse.
Despite Priya seeking help from the police in Sana&rsquo;a, her situation worsened. Rather than taking action against Mahdi, the police arrested Priya and held her in jail for six days. In July 2017, Priya approached the warden of a nearby jail where Mahdi had been incarcerated. The warden suggested she try sedating Mahdi to retrieve her passport. Priya attempted this, using a stronger sedative, but Mahdi died from an overdose shortly afterward. 
The Ongoing Efforts for Justice
The government of India, alongside Priya&rsquo;s family, is continuing its efforts to resolve the case, with legal avenues being explored to ensure her release.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Reddy expressed his gratitude to Nadella for Microsoft&rsquo;s consistent investments and its expanding business operations in Hyderabad and Telangana. The report said the average asset per chief minister from state assemblies and union territories is Rs 52.59 crore.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is the richest chief minister in India with assets worth over Rs 931 crore, while West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee is the poorest with just Rs 15 lakh, according to an Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report released on Monday.
The report said the average asset per chief minister from state assemblies and union territories is Rs 52.59 crore.
While India's per capita net national income or NNI was approximately Rs 1,85,854 for 2023-2024, the average self-income of a chief minister is Rs 13,64,310, around 7.3 times the average per capita income of India.
The total assets of 31 chief ministers are worth Rs 1,630 crores.
Arunachal Pradesh's Pema Khandu is the second richest chief minister with total assets worth over Rs 332 crores, Karnataka's Siddaramaiah is the third on the list with assets worth more than Rs 51 crore.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, with assets worth Rs 55 lakh, is the second poorest in the list and Pinarayi Vijayan is third with Rs 1.18 crore.
Khandu also has the highest liabilities to the tune of Rs 180 crore. Siddaramaiah has liabilities worth Rs 23 crore and Naidu more than Rs 10 crore, the report said.
It also said 13 (42 percent) chief ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 10 (32 percent) have declared serious criminal cases including those related to attempt to murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation.
Out of the 31 chief ministers, only two are women - West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee and Delhi's Atishi.

Saxena also praised Atishi for working on addressing various administrative issues after taking charge.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday expressed concern over AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal labelling Atishi a "temporary chief minister" and called it a "flagrant disregard for the democratic spirit and values enshrined in the Constitution".
In a letter to the chief minister, Saxena said Kejriwal's remark was an insult to President Droupadi Murmu, who appointed her, as well as himself as her representative.
Hitting back, Atishi alleged the lieutenant governor's office was working as a BJP "proxy" and asserted that Kejriwal was Delhi's "tallest leader".
In his letter to Atishi, the Delhi lieutenant governor said, "A few days ago, when your predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, publicly declared you as a temporary or stopgap chief minister in the media, I found this highly objectionable, and I was hurt by it. This was not only an insult to you but also to the president of India, and to me, in my capacity as her representative."
"The public explanation given by Kejriwal regarding the temporary or stopgap nature of your position has no constitutional provision and is a flagrant disregard for the democratic spirit and values enshrined in the Constitution created by BR Ambedkar," he added.
Saxena also praised Atishi for working on addressing various administrative issues after taking charge.
"During my two-and-a-half years of tenure, I have witnessed the person occupying the position of chief minister actually performing the duties of the chief minister," Saxena wrote to Atishi.
The lieutenant governor also extended his new year greetings to her.
"While your predecessor had no department under his charge and did not sign files, you have taken on the responsibility of various departments and have tried to address various administrative issues," he said.
Saxena added the circumstances under which Atishi was made chief minister, the responsibility for failures in completing the various pending works would be attributed to her after her own party's leader declared her as "stopgap".
"The way in which, in your presence, Kejriwal has made unauthorised announcements about senior citizens' and women's schemes in the name of the chief minister has tarnished the dignity of the office of the chief minister and the council of ministers," he said.
Recently, through public notices issued by two Delhi government departments, people were warned to be cautious regarding registration for "non-existent schemes" initiated by the former chief minister, Saxena said in his letter to Atishi.
"This incident is unprecedented and must have undoubtedly been uncomfortable for you," he added.
"However, I also appreciate the departmental officials who, while fulfilling their duties, presented the correct facts to the public regarding the misleading schemes and their registration in the interest of the public," he further said.
Saxena alleged that Kejriwal had been making public statements without any basis or facts, claiming that the transport department and other investigative agencies would probe into Atishi and send her to jail.
"This is not only false but such statements also imply that you are unaware of the activities of the departments working under you. In fact, it has now come to light through newspapers that the additional chief secretary of the transport department has written to inform you that neither any such action is being taken by their department or the vigilance department, nor has there ever been any discussion about it. He has completely rejected Kejriwal's statements, labelling them as baseless and misleading," Saxena said.
"As lieutenant governor, I am concerned about this level of public discourse and, at the same time, hurt by the conversation that portrays the full-time chief minister of my government as a temporary one," he added.
In her reply, Atishi said Saxena should let go of "petty politics" and instead focus on fostering collaboration.
"Obstruction of the 'Mahila Samman Yojana' is a clear testimony of politicisation of the lieutenant governor's office," she charged.
Atishi questioned how anyone could be so caught up in politics that they did not care for the people.
"The lieutenant governor's office is now working as a proxy of the BJP and, in its enthusiasm to protect the interest of the party, causing damage to the lives of ordinary Delhites," she added.
She also pointed out that his responsibility was to maintain law and order.
"It's the one job that you are directly responsible for and mandated to do. Unfortunately, you have miserably failed in keeping this city safe. A former MP is distributing money to lure voters right under your nose but you illegally gave him police protection," she charged, in a reference to BJP leader Parvesh Verma.
Atishi expressed hope that Saxena would let go of the "baggage of politics" that "ailed" him and work towards the welfare of the citizens of Delhi in the new year.

ISRO achieves a key milestone with the successful launch of SpaDeX spacecraft, advancing India's ambitions in space docking and interplanetary missions.

 ISRO’s SpaDeX Mission Marks Breakthrough in Space Docking Technology

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief S Somanath said the rocket has placed the satellites in the right orbit of 475 km circular orbit, after over 15 minutes of flight.

Two spacecraft that would aid ISRO in demonstrating space docking, a critical technology for future space missions, got separated successfully and were placed into the desired orbit late Monday, the country&rsquo;s space agency said.
"PSLV C60 mission accomplished as a SpaDeX spacecraft is considered," said Mission Director M Jayakumar.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief S Somanath said the rocket has placed the satellites in the right orbit of 475 km circular orbit, after over 15 minutes of flight.
"So, as far as we are concerned, the rocket has placed the spacecraft in the right orbit and the SpaDeX satellites have moved one behind the other, and over the period of time, it will pick up further distance, travel about 20 km away and then the rendezvous and docking process will start.
&ldquo;And we hope that the docking process can happen in another week and the nominal time is going to be approximately January 7," he said in his address from the Mission Control Centre.
In this mission, the very important part is the POEM-4 with 24 payloads from startups, industries, academia and also from ISRO centres, he said.
These are scheduled to be fired on Tuesday morning. Scientists would work through the night to ensure that the POEM-4 reaches the desired orbit level to perform the operation, Somanath said.
Later, talking to reporters at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Somanath said the PSLV-C60 mission placed the two SpaDeX satellites weighing 220kg in a circular orbit and 475 km as against the projected 470 km and this mission also has the POEM-4 which has 24 payloads to perform research and development.
"They are payloads and are not satellites. They are going to be attached to the fourth stage (of the PSLV rocket) for conducting experiments over the next two months. The upper stage of the PSLV rocket will be brought down to a lowered orbit to 350 km and that process is currently going on. After that, we will have many activities to continue," Somanath, also the Secretary, Department of Space, said.
On the Space Docking Experiment, he said the scientists would have many operations from December 31 at the ISTRAC Bengaluru and he expected that the docking condition 'possibly on January 7'.
&ldquo;So, we will be able to see that from the Control Centre, ISTRAC, Bengaluru. All those activities of docking, including telecasting of the onboard images from the camera of the docking processes,&rdquo; he said.
Somanath, flanked by SpaDeX Project Director N Surendran, Mission Director M Jayakumar and Directors of the various Centre said ISRO was &ldquo;very proud&rdquo; of this accomplishment and expressed hope that the SpaDeX mission's objective can be achieved in the coming days.
&ldquo;Really important mission for us, this you know, with the space sector reforms, and expansion of space activities. Then we have human space flight programmes, building space stations etc. This (Monday's) mission is so critical for us to work on future missions like the Chandrayaan-4, missions to the Moon as well,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;I believe this is not the first SpaDeX and there will be many more SpaDeX varieties including complex versions of docking systems in the coming days,&rdquo; he said.
Mission Director M Jayakumar said, &ldquo;Hearty congratulations to the team ISRO for venturing into the exciting domain of Space Docking and this Mission once again has POEM-4. We have 24 payloads, and some interesting experiments in POEM-4 like debris capture, and biological experiments are there.&rdquo;
&ldquo;We had two launches of the PSLV from the same launch pad that is the first launch pad in December. So, after the first launch (on December 5 for PSLV-C59/Proba-3 mission), the Satish Dhawan Space Centre team was quick in raising to the occasion (for Monday's mission),&rdquo; he said.
Surendran said, &ldquo;I would like to congratulate the PSLV team for the successive successful launch of PSLV in a month, it is a record, we have also placed our twin babies in a perfectly circular orbit, as per our requirement.
&ldquo;I am happy to say that our solar panels are successfully deployed and the spacecraft are on their journey and holding their wings towards the docking and it is expected to happen around January first week,&rdquo; he said.
As you are aware the space sector is going through a phase to enable private players to meet the growing demands, as per the policy guidelines, SpaDeX was assembled and integrated here for the first time, he said.
Dubbed as a prelude to the ISRO setting up its own Space Station by 2035, the PSLV-C60 mission would also make India join an elite club in achieving this feat which is expected to take place in the coming days.
The 44.5-metre-tall rocket carried two spacecraft -- Spacecraft A and B, each weighing 220 kg which would help in space docking, satellite servicing and interplanetary missions.
After the culmination of the 25-hour countdown which commenced on Sunday, the rocket lifted off at 10 pm from the First Launch Pad at this spaceport, emanating thick orange-coloured fumes and thunderous sound in the island, located about 135 km east of Chennai.
According to ISRO scientists, the two spacecraft-Spacecraft A (SDX01) or the 'Chaser' and Spacecraft B (SDX02) or the 'Target' would be merged together later at an altitude of about 470 km after travelling at the same speed and distance.
By mastering the docking technologies, ISRO is set to enhance its operational flexibility and also expand its mission horizons.
This technology is essential for some of India's space ambitions like Indian on the Moon, getting samples from the Moon (Chandrayaan-4 mission), and building and operating the Bharatiya Antariksh Station.
"In-space docking technology is essential when multiple rocket launches are required to achieve common mission objectives. Through this mission, India is marching towards becoming the fourth country in the world to have space docking technology," ISRO said.
The others to achieve this technological feat are China, Russia and the US.

The announcement comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, with AAP seeking to retain power for a fourth consecutive term.

"Pujaris and granthis are an important part of our society, but they are often a neglected section. For the first time in the country, we are introducing a scheme to support them, under which they will receive a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000," Kejriwal said, adding, registration for the scheme will start tomorrow.
He also said he would visit the Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place on Tuesday to oversee the registration process for priests there.
Registration will also be done at other temples and gurdwaras across the city by the AAP workers, he said.
Kejriwal also accused the BJP of trying to scuttle several of his party's welfare schemes.
"Just like the BJP tried to stop the Mahila Samman Yojana by sending police but couldn't, similarly they shouldn't try to stop the 'Pujari-Granthi Samman' scheme. BJP will incur a great sin by doing this.
"This scheme is a tribute to their spiritual contribution to society and their efforts to preserve our cultural heritage," he added in a social media post made after the announcement.
The former chief minister did not specify clear guidelines for the registration process.
He said the number of registrations to avail of the proposed honorarium will be made public once the process is completed.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who also attended the press conference, lauded the initiative.
"When Aam Aadmi Party forms the government in Delhi again, temple priests and Gurudwara granthis who have been preserving and carrying forward our culture and civilisation for generations will be given an honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month. Arvind Kejriwal Ji's decision is not only a tribute to the service of the priests and granthis but also a resolve to preserve our heritage," she wrote in a post on X.
Meanwhile, imams and muezzins of the mosques under the Delhi Waqf Board in Delhi staged a protest outside Kejriwal's residence over the delay in the release of their salaries.
Protestors claimed their monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 (for imams) and Rs 16,000 (for muezzins) have been delayed for over one and a half years.

"Launch Day is here. Tonight at precisely 10 pm, PSLV-C60 with SpaDeX and innovative payloads are set for liftoff," ISRO said in an update on Monday.
"Space Docking Experiment is a pioneering mission to establish India's capability in orbital docking, a key technology for future human spaceflight and satellite servicing missions," the space agency added.
The 25 hour countdown which commenced on Sunday night at 9 pm was proceeding, an ISRO official said.
A cost-effective technology demonstrator mission for in-space docking, it would make India join an elite list featuring China, Russia and the US.
The mission will be launched from the first launch pad at this spaceport here and would carry SpaDeX with two spacecraft as the primary payloads along with 24 secondary payloads.
The in-space docking technology would be essential for taking up India's ambitions in space including sending humans to the Moon, bringing samples from there, and also building and operating the country's own space station- Bharatiya Antariksh Station.
The docking technology would also be utilised when multiple rocket launches are planned to achieve common mission objectives.
ISRO said the two spacecraft in the PSLV rocket-- Spacecraft A (SDX01) and Spacecraft B (SDX02) would be placed in an orbit that would keep them 5 km apart from each other. Later, scientists at ISRO headquarters would try to bring them closer up to 3 metres which would subsequently lead them for merging together at an altitude of about 470km above Earth.
The process is expected to take place about 10-14 days after the scheduled lift-off on Monday, ISRO officials said.
In the SpaDeX mission, Spacecraft A carries a High Resolution Camera, while Spacecraft B has Miniature Multispectral Payload and a Radiation Monitor Payload. These payloads would provide high resolution images, natural resource monitoring, vegetation studies among others.
Apart from this significant mission, scientists would also conduct the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-4 (POEM-4) in which 24 payloads--14 from ISRO and 10 from industry and academia, would be placed in the desired orbits one after the other over a 90 minute period after the lift-off.
The life of the payloads in the fourth stage would be about three to four months. The vehicle for the PSLV-C60 mission used here would be the 18th Core-Alone variant.
This would be ISRO's last mission in 2024 and the PSLV-C60 is the first vehicle to be integrated up to the fourth stage at the PSLV Integration Facility that has been established in Sriharikota.

The police stated that the Jan Suraaj Party had conducted a protest march without the necessary approval and led demonstrators to Patna's Gandhi Maidan.

A police case has been registered against Prashant Kishor, the election strategist turned political leader, along with the leadership of his Jan Suraaj Party, several coaching center owners, and around 700 unidentified protesters in relation to the massive student protests that took place in Bihar on Sunday. They are accused of organizing an unauthorized gathering, provoking unrest, and disrupting public order.
The police stated that the Jan Suraaj Party had conducted a protest march without the necessary approval and led demonstrators to Patna's Gandhi Maidan. The protest turned violent, with demonstrators damaging police loudspeakers and clashing with law enforcement and officials on duty. Despite multiple warnings from the authorities, the protesters ignored the instructions and caused a disturbance, said the police.
The protests were sparked by allegations of a paper leak in the 70th Combined Competitive Examination by the Bihar Public Service Commission. The students, seeking a re-test, gathered at Gandhi Maidan and marched towards JP Golambar, with the intention to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. However, the police had to intervene, using batons and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Prashant Kishor showed his full support for the students and participated in the protest march. He suggested that a delegation of students meet with the Chief Secretary to address their concerns, but the students insisted on meeting only the Chief Minister, which escalated the situation.
Earlier, Kishore had proposed holding a "Chhatra Sansad" at Gandhi Maidan on Gandhi Jayanti to discuss student issues and plan further actions, but the city administration denied permission for the event.
Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, which officially rebranded as a political entity in October, plans to contest all seats in Bihar during the upcoming state elections. After spending two years traveling across the state, Kishor aimed to bring a fundamental shift to Bihar's politics, emphasizing issue-based discussions over the traditional practice of offering sops.

Hundreds of farmers have been protesting at the Punjab-Haryana border demanding a legal guarantee of a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

Farmers blocked roads at many places across the state on Monday as part of their Punjab bandh call, hamstringing the commuter traffic.
A call for a shutdown was given last week by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha over the Centre not accepting the demands of protesting farmers.
The bandh will be observed from 7 am to 4 pm. Farmers observed a sit-in at Dhareri Jattan Toll Plaza which affected vehicular movement on the Patiala-Chandigarh National Highway.
At Amritsar's Golden Gate, farmers started to assemble near the city's entry point while in Bathinda's Rampura Phul, they blocked roads.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Sunday said though there will be a complete bandh, emergency services will be allowed to operate.
"The bandh will be observed from 7 am to 4 pm. However, emergency services will remain operational. Anyone travelling to the airport to catch a flight or anyone going to attend a job interview, or anyone needs to attend a wedding... all these things have been kept out of our bandh call," he said.
Meanwhile, 70-year-old farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal's hunger strike entered its 35th day on Monday.
Dallewal has so far refused medical treatment.
Hundreds of farmers have been protesting at the Punjab-Haryana border demanding a legal guarantee of a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Dallewal had earlier said he would not break his fast until the government agreed to the farmers' demands.
The apex court has given the Punjab government time till December 31 to persuade Dallewal to shift to a hospital, granting the state the liberty to seek logistical support from the Centre, if necessary.
Farmers, under the banner of SKM (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13, after their march to Delhi was stopped by security forces.
A "jatha" (group) of 101 farmers attempted to march to Delhi on foot three times between December 6 and 14 but were stopped by security personnel from Haryana.
Besides the MSP, farmers are also demanding a debt waiver, pension, no hike in electricity tariffs, withdrawal of police cases, and "justice" for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

During questioning, Naim claimed that financial hardships forced his mother to migrate to India two decades ago, while he followed her in 2020.

Delhi Police has deported a Bangladeshi mother-son duo, of which the woman was staying in southwest Delhi since 2005, officials said on Tuesday.
The deported persons have been identified as Nazma Khan and her son Naim Khan (22), police said.
"The duo entered India illegally via the West Bengal border. While Nazma came around 20 years back, Naim arrived in 2020," Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest), Surendra Choudhary, said.
The mother-son duo was staying in Katwaria Sarai, where Nazma worked as a domestic help, he said.
"During a routine patrol on December 29, police intercepted Naim near the Shastri Market following a tip-off. Naim's interrogation led to Nazma's detention the following day. Both were handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) from where they were deported to Bangladesh," the DCP said.
During questioning, Naim claimed that financial hardships forced his mother to migrate to India two decades ago, while he followed her in 2020.
In a related case, a Bangladeshi national named Mohammad Akhtar Sheikh has been arrested from Sarojini Nagar for staying in the country illegally, officials said.
"Sheikh, who was held in a drug-related case on November 28, was released on bail. However, subsequent address verification revealed his status as an illegal immigrant. Originally from Kochaghata in Bangladesh, Sheikh entered India via West Bengal in 2004," the DCP said.
Sheikh, who married an Indian national in 2012, worked at a construction site in Delhi, he said.
On December 30, he was found near the Sarojini Nagar railway station without any valid documents, following which a fresh case under the Foreigners Act has been registered against him, the officer said.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday apologised for the ethnic conflict in the state which claimed over 250 lives and rendered thousands homeless, and appealed to all communities to forget and forgive past mistakes and live together in a peaceful and prosperous state.
Addressing reporters in Imphal, Singh said that there has been relative peace in the state in the last three-four months, which gives him hope that normalcy will be restored in the new year.

"I want to say sorry for what happened in the state. Many people lost their loved ones and many had to leave their homes. I regret and want to apologise. But after seeing relative peace in the last three-four months, I hope that normalcy will be restored in the coming year.
"Whatever happened has happened... I want to appeal to all communities to forgive and forget our past mistakes and start life afresh by living together in a peaceful and prosperous Manipur," he said.
Singh said firing incidents have declined in the state over the last 20 months since the ethnic conflict began in May 2023.
"From May to October, 2023, 408 firing incidents were reported. From November 2023 to April 2024, there were 345 firing incidents, whereas from May this year till now, 112 firing incidents were reported," he said.
He said that of all the looted weapons, 3,112 have been recovered and 2,511 explosives have been seized during the period.
The chief minister further said that 625 people have been arrested and 12,047 FIRs registered so far.
More than 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and adjoining hills-based Kuki-Zo groups since May last year.

Popular spots like Connaught Place, India Gate, and Hauz Khas attract large crowds to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. In anticipation of these festivities, the Delhi Police has outlined proactive measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety in these areas.
To manage the expected traffic, around 2,500 personnel from the Delhi Traffic Police will be deployed. Additionally, 250 teams will be set up to monitor and prevent drunken driving on New Year&rsquo;s Eve. 
Traffic Restrictions in Connaught Place
As part of the traffic control plan, 11 CAPF companies, 40 motorcycle patrol teams, and an equal number of foot patrol teams will be in action. From 8 pm on December 31 until after midnight, traffic control measures will be implemented around Connaught Place.

The advisory issued by the Delhi Police on X stated that no vehicles will be allowed beyond specific points, including Mandi House, Bengali Market, and other key intersections. Only vehicles with valid passes will be allowed into the inner, middle, or outer circles of Connaught Place.
Parking will be limited to certain designated areas, such as Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House, with parking available on a first-come, first-served basis. Unauthorized vehicles will be subject to towing and penalties.

Earlier on Monday, the DMRC had said that to ensure public safety and manage crowds on New Year's Eve on Tuesday, exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be allowed from 9 pm onwards.
