A sea of yellow turbans - there was a special reason that Bhagwant Mann's oath-taking ceremony had a 'basanti' flavour. The entire event was an ode to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

After its landslide victory in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party had invoked Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar as the guiding lights of the new administration. For the oath-taking, Mann chose the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh, Khatkar Kalan.

Mann has traditionally worn yellow turbans in public, and linked the same to Bhagat Singh for the event.

However, Chaman Lal, an authority on Bhagat Singh, said that the 'basanti' or yellow colour cannot be linked to Bhagat Singh as a person, as he never wore yellow turbans. He explained that the colour had come to symbolise all revolutionaries fighting for India's freedom.
