Days after a video of a man abusing and pushing a woman at a residential society in UP's Noida went viral, the housing complex became the stage for fresh action.

A group of men supporting the aggressor Shrikant Tyagi reportedly turned up at the Grand Omaxe society in Noida's Sector 93B on 7 August, shouting slogans and asking for the woman's address, according to reports.

The group's antics elicited a protest by the society residents, who raised slogans against Noida Police for inaction in the case.

Tyagi has claimed to be a leader of the BJP's Kisan Morcha, but the ruling party has distanced itself, saying that he is not a member of its ranks. Tyagi is evading arrest.

Noida Police said that seven people who had entered the society have been arrested. The Station House Office (SHO) of Phase 2, Central Noida has been suspended for lapses.

Noida Police Commissioner Alok Singh was quoted by news agency ANI as saying that action is being taken against Shrikant Tyagi under the Gangster Act, and his illegal properties are being identified. He said that security has been provided to the family.

The issue erupted over alleged encroachment of public space in the society by Shrikant Tyagi. The woman in the video said she confronted him, but was abused and manhandled.
