India's President led the country in observing Earth Hour on March 26. Lights at the President's official residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan, were switched off for an hour between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.

The Earth Hour is held annually as part of a worldwide movement to create awareness regarding energy conservation, and its contribution towards a healthier environment.

The switching on of lights at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at the end of the Earth Hour was a sight to behold, as the iconic buildings appeared to emerge out of the darkness.

Other significant public places across the country also observed Earth Hour.
Decorative lights at the Howrah Bridge in West Bengal's capital Kolkata were switched off as well.

Lights at the India Gate monument in the national capital were also dimmed to create awareness.

In India's financial capital Mumbai, the civic body BMC, switched off lights at its headquarters. The BMC offices are situated in a Gothic-style heritage building designed by Frederick William Stevens.
