Election Commission official refutes EVM hacking charge

An election commission official rejected claims that the Electronic Voting Machine can be hacked through phones.

In a press conference, Mumbai Suburban Returning Officer, Vandana Suryavanshi made the clarification on Sunday in response to a newspaper report that a relative of Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar was using a phone near the counting centre, trying to hack the EVM.

Opposition leaders, citing the report, once again raised the EVM hacking issue.

"No OTP is needed to unlock the EVM. There is no mobile OTP needed to unlock the EVM as it is a non-programmable offence...It has advanced technical features and there is no communication device on the EVM...It is a technically full-proof system & EVM is a standalone system. It does not require any OTP."
